This is a tough race and today's was even
harder with the temperature in mid 20's C.
The race is a gradual rise along a 1.5 mile tarmac road, bit of
woodland and fields, then a gruelling ascent of 2500 ft in just 2.5
miles. Turn around at the summit then follow the same route down.
I faired relatively well on the steep descent and probably gained
about 10 places. Unfortunately, this left me exhausted when I
reached the road and could only manage to shuffle along while those
who'd left 'something in the tank' just left me standing.
Mark did really well, coming in 3rd MV40, which
is even more impressive since it was a Welsh Championship race.
Post race hospitality included sandwiches, drinks and cake. T shirts
were £7 each, but a cold dip in the Afon Wnion was both free and
popular.
The 1:21:18 men's record is now 13 years old. There is a £500 prize
for a new record next year!
