Before the race, Pete was worrying that yet another pair of new shoes was rubbing his high mileage ankles. Pre race tension was eased by perusing the ladies’ cake stall where I reserved an ample slice of ginger flapjack.
The race followed a now familiar format: After an initial tussle between Kevin, Pete and me, I settled in to narrow lead. After six miles, Kevin caught me and pulled ahead on the last ascent. Then Pete caught me and I settled for third place.
Back at the finish, I made straight for the cake stall, but was sadly disappointed that the chosen ginger flapjack has sold out! Congratulations are probably in order for Sarah, whose championship victory now looks assured.
